Arbitrage

A suspenseful and well-written thriller.

Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is a rich, succesful financial businessman. With several secrets coming to light (both personally and professionally) he struggles to save his life, company and family. In an effort to protect his family and his to protect his own needs he turns to an unlikely person to help him. Leading from one mix-up to another, Arbitrage keeps a high level of suspension.

It has been a while since I saw Richard Gere acting this good. The role of succesful businessman with several secrets is played to perfection. His wife, played by Susan Sarandon, adds a lot of depth to the character of Robert Miller. I personally loved the story and the drama and suspense it brings. From an affair to illegitimate business deals, there is a lot happening at the same time. Struggling to keep his head above water he has to deal with all these issues to ensure his financial future and the bond with his wife and daughter. His daughter Brooke Miller, played by Brit Marling (known for Sound of My Voice) already works for the same company and is ready to take over her father’s role in business.

It has been a while since I saw a really good thriller and therefore Arbitrage was a pleasant surprise. Well-written, well acted and easy on the eye. Recommended as “One To Watch”!
