Bait is a movie that shifts between being a serious horror/thriller or not. The story itself is about a group of people who get trapped inside a supermarket due to a Tsunami. They soon find out they are not alone as somethings swims between the shelves…Â The cover reveals in great glory what this is and the 12-foot Great White Shark looks awesome.
The movie never makes it to the level of “Jaws”, but it’s an entertaining effort for sure. The cast is quite good, the setting in Australia is lovely and the special effects are good too. To me, all the smaller side stories could have been deleted. They have little effect to the background of the personages as they add very little. One story, for example, is about a guy trying to rob the supermarket. He looks to be set-up by his criminal business partner and he is hesitant to follow through. Apparently his brother is in dept with this dubious partner and he therefore decides to rob and set things straight. It all sounds pretty well, but when they actually get trapped this plays no role whatsoever other than the fact that the cop who tried to arrest him doesn’t like him.
As for suspense… Bait offers decent suspense. There are 2 locations (supermarket and the parking lot) where people are trapped in with a Great White Shark. One by one they have to leave their current location for different reasons. All reasons are related to survival and this works out quite well. The Sharks look really good and convincing, especially in 3D. The movie manages to deliver ‘survival suspense’.
The acting is not exceptional, but it’s above par. Especially Phoebe Tonkin (known for The Secret Circle and H2O) really lights up the screen with her character, her acting and her looks.
All in all it’s an entertaining movie to watch. Expect to see impressive sharks and add a bonus point if you are to watch this in 3D.
What a lovely weblog page. I will surely be back once again. Please maintain writing!
